History & Ethos:
Make Smith Leather Co. is a family-owned and operated business started in Santa Barbara in the late 1950's. Its run by third generation leather crafts-people. It was started as a custom workshop, inspired both by fine art techniques and artisan traditions, with a focus on handmade one-of-a-kind leather goods. The workshop has since focused on the Make Smith brand product line, which aims to make handmade craftsmanship available to retail customers.
Materials & Process: MADE & SOURCED IN THE USA
|"Inspired in part by the Soria family heritage in saddlery, Make Smith goods are primarily constructed from equestrian leathers such as bridle and latigo. These types of leather were developed to be strong, durable, and weather-resistant, yet flexible and smooth to the touch. They will last for years and only grow more beautiful with age. Whenever possible, materials are sourced in the USA. Each piece is made by hand, per order, one at a time, in our workshop located in Santa Barbara, California." - Steven Soria|
